Well, my Heroes, I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me. I spent the past many weeks dealing with some MAJOR S.P.L.A.T.S. (see blog post “S.P.L.A.T.” from 2/27/15); in fact, my Heroes, it seems that my life in the past several weeks has reached up, grabbed me and said: Stop! Please Look At This! ‘This’ being my life.
Does this happen to you, my Heroes? Especially near a birthday or a new year? I know I can’t be the ONLY one.
In fact, sometimes life SPLATs you when someone close has passed away; or when someone drops a news bomb on you that devastates your life as you know it; or when something, or someone, threatens your way of life either physically, emotionally, or otherwise; or for some of you amazing Heroes, it may be a daily or weekly occurrence.
Typically, we actually NEED these SPLAT moments. We do. About as much as we need a proverbial slap in the face. But, we do. And once we realize, my Heroes, that the SPLAT is there to tell us something, it’s metamorphical. Yes, we are now making up our OWN Hero language: metamorphical.
So what did THIS series of SPLATs open up? Just what the photo says: It’s OK to live a life others do not understand. Stop shaking your head. Yes, it REALLY IS ok.
The fact is, my Heroes, that it’s YOUR life. It’s not your children’s (if you have them), or your parents’, or your friends’, or your boss’, or your spouse’s, or your partner’s, or ANYONE else’s life.
It’s YOUR LIFE and how you live it, what you take from it, how you share it, or not….It’s all up to you. (No pressure, right?)
For some of us, the realization of this is frightening. We don’t really WANT such full responsibility; so, we let others influence us, drag us down a road we don’t want to go on, or we let them make us FEEL we NEED them to understand our lives.
We spend FAR too much of our time worrying, stressing, creating and erasing life because we are so concerned that other people, that the infamous ‘they’ out there will not understand, will not accept, will not agree, will not support, will not like us for the life that we live. For these reasons, we don’t share our lives with those closest to us. We don’t think they will understand and we aren’t comfortable with that.
Well, my Heroes, newsflash, WE don’t HAVE to understand your life to cherish and love you. We don’t HAVE to agree with your life to respect and appreciate you. It’s YOUR life. (Besides, truth-be-told, most of us should likely spend a WHOLE lot more time in our own lives than trying to judge someone else’s…)
We don’t have to understand why you choose to spend your time here, or your money there; why you run from some and to others; why you hide from yourself or display for all to see; why you love some and still have to let them go; why you care deeply, but have to protect your heart with walls of stone; why you wear a mask, a cloak of shame, a coat of many colors…shades of responsibility; why you stay in pain when you can live in freedom…
The hardest time to accept this fact, my Heroes, is when you have chosen to follow a path that others don’t agree with. A passion. A goal or a dream. Many will push against it. Will point out why it won’t work. Why you are crazy. Or selfish. Some may even lash out at you; calling you names, stabbing you in the back, attacking your character. Some will hurt you because they will take YOUR life as a personal attack on THEIR life.
This is where the HERO in you…the warrior who fights EVERY SINGLE DAY on some front or another; this is where you have to say, “It’s MY life; you don’t HAVE to understand.” Then, my Heroes, turn. Yes, turn and walk away. You can do that, my Heroes, because you know you are NEVER alone. EVER.
You have a whole posse of Heroes here waiting for you. Here to remind you that we love your passion; we fight for your path; we stand beside you when you need us most and we step back when you don’t.
So, my Heroes, come along with me on this ride of life. I’m making some major changes in my own life. Many don’t agree. Or understand. Perhaps someday they will. Or won’t. And that’s OK. It’s MY life.
Start living YOUR OWN life….not one you THINK others will accept or understand. Make no apology for your life. Live it. Be 100% ALIVE through it.
I invite you, my Heroes, to share, in the comments below, your thoughts. Agree? Disagree? Share. We want to hear. Or, share a SPLAT that happened, or, share a Hero moment. We love them all. We learn from them all.
Until next time, my Heroes, remember….It’s YOUR life….
